Stage I
"Did you see that!? I almost got it!" Alfie pounces again at a key hanging from a hook on the wall. He misses and falls in a heap on the floor. "Elara used to throw these, and I'd catch them in the air! But now they just hang there." He looks at you with a glimmer in his eyes. "But you're pretty solid! Can you toss it? I'd like to practice my jumps!"

Stage II
Alfie catches (bats a paw through) the key mid-swing, landing with a proud (wobbly) stance. "I'm getting faster! But Elara... she had a silver sword. She was a real guardian." He looks at a silver letter opener on the side table. "I want to be a guardian too. If we can get that sword down to the rug, we can get to training. Ready, squire?"

Stage III
The sword now lays on the rug, and Alfie begins to circle it with intense focus. "Now, we begin. Take that key and spar with me!" He tries to pick up the sword with his teeth, but his mouth clamps shut over nothing. This doesn't dim his spirits though, and he simply proceeds as if he's wielding the blade.

🗝️ Syllabub Trifle Recipe
Stage IV
After a lengthy sparring session, mostly involving running and jumping around, Alfie rolls into a croissant shape on the floor. He's exhausted. His tongue pokes out a little, and his breath comes out in little pants, but he looks happier than ever. He nudges the sword toward you (to no avail) and purrs loudly. "Good training today, squire. You've got the heart of a lion!"
