Stage I
All that's left of the fireplace in the Great Hall is stone and ash... a far cry from the warmth that the big folk used to enjoy. Rupert sits on the soot-stained hearth, staring at a single, unburnt log that has rolled out of the grate. "This is quite depressing. The other rooms have their glow, but this Hall? We need to build a proper fire if we are to bring some cheer back to this place," he huffs.

Stage II
The log is back in place. You look to Rupert, who begins to circle the grate with a frown. "It also needs to crackle. Look up there, on the mantle." He flicks his tail at a box of long, wooden matches. "The big folk used those to make sparks. It's a steep climb for a mouse, but if you can bring one down, we might actually see some light in here."

You tumble back to the hearth with a match as long as your body. It smells like old chemicals. Yuck. But Rupert doesn't seem to mind. He leans in, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Now, the tricky part. Strike it against the stone with all your might!"

Against all odds, the match catches, and the log begins to crackle with a real, warm fire. Rupert sits back, and the orange light reflects off his spectral body as he inhales the scent of cedar and smoke. "Finally, a proper fire." He purrs, then nudges you toward the warmest spot on the stone. "Stay a while. The Hall has't been this homey in a long, long time."
